Existen pocas series amplias sobre mastocitosis pediátrica, y no se ha establecido con claridad un protocolo diagnóstico y terapéutico de la mastocitosis en la infancia. Tampoco existe un consenso de clasificación sobre esta enfermedad.

Background: Mastocytosis in children has distinctive features from adult mastocytosis. Few series have been published on pediatric mastocytosis, and diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines have not been clearly established. Finally, there is not a consensus classification of pediatric mastocytosis. Setting: A department of Dermatology from a Pediatric Hospital. Patients and methods: Between 1977 and 1997, 172 cases of mastocytosis were seen in children of less than 12 years old. Data from history and clinical examination were recorded. Basic hematologic and biochemical profile, radiologic skeletal survey and marrow aspirates with fine needle for microscopic study were obtained.
