An insight into photodynamic therapy towards treating major dermatological conditions
2022, Journal of Drug Delivery Science and TechnologyCitation Excerpt :In a study, 9 out of 10 patients with FD showed significant improvement after undergoing four PDT sessions having an interval of four weeks post each session [169]. However its efficacy is not yet well established as in one study, three patients with persistent FD when treated with Metvix® (MAL), there was no stabilization in the disease parameters such as inflammation, scarring, etc. [171]. But still, PDT continues to gain momentum in FD therapy as in a very recent study conducted by Yang et al., 7 out of 13 FD cases showed significant improvement and the other 6 cases showed moderate improvement and moreover post a twelve-month follow up it was seen that 9 out of 13 patients still had not faced any cases of recurrence [172].
Treatment of folliculitis decalvans by photodynamic therapy using a new light-emitting device: A case series of 4 patients
2021, JAAD Case ReportsCitation Excerpt :The main side effect was pain. In contrast, in a study by Burillo-Martinez et al,10 PDT resulted in no improvement in all 3 patients and an overall worsening of the disease in 1 patient. All patients experienced discomfort that lasted from 1 to 3 days.
Photodynamic therapy should be considered for the treatment of folliculitis decalvans
2021, Photodiagnosis and Photodynamic TherapyCitation Excerpt :To date, the efficacy of photodynamic therapy for folliculitis decalvans remains controversial. Some studies have shown that photodynamic therapy is effective for treating folliculitis decalvans [6–8,10], although some studies have shown the opposite results [9]. In our study, ALA-PDT was used to treat refractory folliculitis decalvans.
Photodynamic therapy as an alternative treatment in patients with invasive cutaneous SCC where surgery is not feasible: Single center experience
2020, Photodiagnosis and Photodynamic TherapyCitation Excerpt :cSCC is the second most common skin cancer after basal cell carcinoma. The available treatment options like radiotherapy, chemotherapy or immune therapy are all associated with multiple adverse effects because of concurrent damage to normal cells [13]. Surgery, which is the definitive treatment for cSCC has its own limitation in terms of tumor number, size and site.
